Domestic Violence is Deadly. So much has been written about domestic violence. A common occurrence across the world. A tolerated violence by many couples. I knew of persons that even in University laid hands on their girlfriends. What surprised me was that the girls stayed with the guys and even made excuses for them. I do not understand why.
Some time ago, a couple I know got permission to separate. Not divorce. Physical violence is unacceptable.
Much more worse than physical violence is verbal abuse and systematic denigration of another. While there is no outward bruise, there is more internal damage, low sense of worth and esteem. The victim dies slowly everyday.
Domestic Violence is not only at Home
This does not only happen in marriages. It is common in workplaces. Bankers generally think it is acceptable to be insulted, intimidated and harassed by superiors. I cannot understand why people stick it.
Do not stick with whatever kills you inside. Do not accept it under any guise. Do not rationalise verbal or physical abuse. It will kill you.
Our society needs to provide more outlets to discuss the problem. Children from homes where violence is taking place tend to be more aggressive and often use the same words they hear from their parents. “I will slap you, I will beat you” and such. Look out for such signs.
Then in offices and workplaces. HR manager or HCM personnel need to be educated on the process and actually do more than gloss over incidences. There is currently a culture of looking the other way or “manage yourself”. In fact many joke about notorious bosses. Shamefully.
Domestic Violence is Deadly. If you fall a victim of Domestic Violence, assert yourself. Shout and scream for help. Nothing is worth your life or esteem.
It’s not from men to women only. Or Bosses to Juniors.
