Dressing Codes for Christians

Does your Dressing Matter?

In life today, we are guided by so many norms, codes of ethics etc. In Christendom, we are also guided by Rules and Regulations or say Ethics on how to behave and how to do everything we wish to do.

We will recall that the Disciples of Jesus were never called Christians, but the Apostles were first called Christians in the Bible according to the Book of Acts of the Apostles Chapter 11, verses 25 to 26:

“Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch” (Acts 11:25-26 KJV)

Why exactly were they called Christians? What led to people (who may/have not even seen Jesus call them Christians?

The answer is not far fetched. It is simply because they have heard about Jesus Christ, His teachings and His style of reasoning, behaviour including dressing.

Jesus Had(/Has) ALL, but He still chose to be humble in all things. Thus these men and women were seen as people who exhibited the “Likeness” of Jesus Christ, and that earned them the title “Christians”

Today, many people are doing what they like, and misquoting the Bible, all to suit their own “Selfish” needs. Many Pastors and Teachers/Preachers have even put a “blind” eye to what happens in their Churches as far as the tithes and Offerings do not dwindle.

Some have openly come out to say that your dressing does not matter, as far as you are a “regular” in all Church activities, and “Born again”.

But my questions are:

  • Does your dressing as a “Child of God” Matter?
  • Can we because of the “Grace of God”, start doing things like people who have no senses?
  • Does Dressing to Church determine how Big/Fat your tithe and Offering should be?
  • Does your dressing indicate how “committed” you are to the Body of Christ?
  • Must you dress in tatters to indicate that you are “Righteous”?

What is your view about dressing and how it affect the Church today?

NOTE: I am not talking about women wearing trousers etc, I am talking about “Dressing to kill”. Lol.

You may think that its only when a woman dress in trousers that it becomes an issues (as many people only attribute that to “Out of place dressing” No… I mean provocative dressing, and dressing with the aim (or not) to cause another to leave the teachings in the church or congregation and become distracted.

The bible says, do not behave as unbelievers, but today so called ministers claim you can behave anyhow and dress anyhow. ‘let there be modesty in everything’.

Some people’s views are that:

If christianity is a community-practice, then it matters because your behavior affects that of the community. if Christianity is a self-practice, then it doesn’t matter.

But Christianity is both community and self based discipline, so while you as an individual can do what you want and it does not offend yourself, you also have a responsibility to the larger community so they are not misled.

What is your own view(s) on Dressing as it is today in the Christendom?

Please know that Moderation in everything is important, even at your views here.
