Let’s Talk Relationship: Can A Christian Be In A Relationship?

Well, here we go again… some of us are probably fed up talking about relationships and all. I used to feel that way as well, cos I kept on asking, isn’t there anything more important to deal with other than relationships and sex, but don’t let us deceive or be deceived about critical matters like this… Once you are approaching adulthood… relationship, love and sexual desires would be approaching you too… that’s life, it’s left for you to deal wisely with it.

The first question is:

Can a Christian be in a relationship?  What do you think??

Of course a Christian can be in a relationship; we can be in a relationship with our FATHER, Our Saviour and Our Comforter who dwells in us but unfortunately we tend to trust our so called ‘boyfriends/girlfriends’ more than we trust our GOD all in the name of relationship. Might I remind you that the Bible said that we should not trust anyone, not our best-friend or husbands or even wife (Micah 7:5 NLT)

I am sorry to say this but anyone who is under-age (under 18 years) and happens to be in a relationship is floating on the wrong ship; also anyone who is over-age (over 18) and as not yet established himself or herself in the LORD before entering a relationship might end up being a lost sheep.

You cannot successfully carry out a commitment or vow with some-other person that the LORD has not ordained for you. It’s impossible. I mean, why would a Christian jump from one relationship to another and yet keep giving excuses for their past failures??… Please!! Spare me the detail, if you truly are a SON/ DAUGHTER OF GOD, you would allow the SPIRIT of GOD to direct you and certainly, the HOLY SPIRIT would not direct you into relationship that would end up in failure. Same goes for marriages. Today you hear of Pastors divorcing their wives and all… anyways that’s a topic for another day.

Ok, let’s just break here!

If your question means can I have sexual relationship with someone I am not married to but have the intention of getting married to them, I believe if you are a follower of Christ you already know the answer to that already. NO. The Bible calls it fornication.

A single, mature Christian can be in courtship but they should follow due process so as not to fall into sin. (Due process in a nutshell is both being morally accountable to your Pastor, Christian Counsellor).

Many , especially ladies fall for the fallacy that engaging in sexual relations is actually proving that they love the guy. if a man loves you that much, the proof is in waiting until after he has asked for your hand in marriage and taken you to the altar. Remember 1Cor.6:18.
